Derby Fever: Arrows and City Set for Crucial Clash
The Durban derby returns to the King Zwelithini Stadium this Saturday, 11 April, with Lamontville Golden Arrows and Durban City FC both desperate for points in this Matchday 24 fixture.
Although Arrows are reeling from a 5-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates, head coach Manqoba Mngqithi remains confident.
“I believe we have a team that is capable of overcoming any team on any given day,” Mngqithi insisted. While acknowledging the “cracks” in the opposition’s setup, he noted: “In the cup game against us we missed three sitters. But I am not saying they are not a good team defensively.”
Durban City, currently sixth in the table, are the narrow favourites. Their pragmatic style has seen them concede only 15 goals this season. However, Arrows possess the league’s most clinical striker in Junior Dion, who has netted 12 times.
While betting predictions lean towards an away win for the Citizens, Mngqithi believes his side has the firepower to bounce back. As the league enters a “crunch time,” this encounter is a vital opportunity for Abafana Bes’thende to prove their resilience and settle the score following their recent Nedbank Cup exit.
